Superdrug - Taking an Innovative Approach to Staff Training

When Superdrug wanted to produce a training video for their employees to tackle the sensitive subject of shoplifting, they approached Take One Productions to communicate their clear objectives into a powerful visual presentation. Superdrug's Project Manager liaised with Take One Productions throughout the whole project. Here, he shares his take on Take One Productions with a freelance journalist.

Q. How did Take One Productions respond to your brief?

I was quite surprised by how quickly they responded to what we wanted to achieve. Very pleased in fact. I was also surprised by how quickly they got us to where we wanted to be. The overall idea was bang on from the start!

Q. How was communication with Take One Productions throughout the project?

We forged a good working relationship. The communication channels were open throughout and I found them very easy to access. They were very open and very natural. It really was a two-way communication process. I didn't know what to expect but they listened to us and really demonstrated an understanding of our needs.

Q. Were you given time to approve the project at each stage?

Yes, we had a measured approach. Quite structured and very comfortable with plenty of time to approve!

Q. Part of the filming took place at a Superdrug store in Woking during open hours. How straightforward was that?

We didn't encounter any problems or disruptions. Take One Productions were very professional right the way through. Personally, I found them to be a friendly and approachable outfit. We worked together as a team during the two days of filming.

Q. Does the presenter on the video communicate your message?

I was offered the chance to go to the auditions to select a presenter, but I couldn't make it. We gave Take One Productions a brief of what we were looking for and they really responded to it. The presenter is clear and she communicates our message really well. She makes the whole subject interesting. The end result was very similar to the vision that I had before I commissioned Take One Productions. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. They really interpreted what I wanted and delivered it. It really was down to great teamwork.

Q. Is the video achieving its objectives?

As we speak, we're just about to launch the video to the area managers. Everyone I have shown it to has been more than happy. We've had great feedback from staff that have watched it. In fact, I've had members of staff who have been with Superdrug for 12 years, and they have commented that they've learnt new things from the video. It has also been shown to staff that have been with us for just a few weeks and they too have found it really informative and helpful. All of the staff that have seen it have commented on how much they have learnt from such a short film.

Q. Would you use Take One Productions again?

Yes, definitely!
