Take One work with DFID to develop new communications solutions

September 2006

Take One Productions UK Ltd is working with the Department for International Development (DFID) to further develop the distribution of video and Media on Demand across their intranet. Take One has found DFID to be innovative in its approach.

Says Carrie Cort, Marketing Director of Take One: "We have been working for DFID since 1999. Our initial brief was to enable DFID to take advantage of new technology to improve their internal communications. The traditional way of communicating with paper was being challenged by DFID, in favour of a more dynamic and vibrant medium. During the early phase of the project we worked with their IT team to enable their IT infrastructure to stream videos. The web streaming that follows allows Ministers and Senior Managers to deliver key messages to staff in over 22 locations around the world. Leaving aside the impact this delivery has on the staff, it also brings savings over the more conventional methods of delivery."

Cort continues: "Another benefit of web streaming is that it saves time and keeps the message fresh. Within just two hours of filming Take One can edit and encode on site the internal message. DFID then host the encoded video files on their own network. These video messages can then be seen by thousands of staff worldwide, simultaneously."

Cort concludes: "To date, we have produced 66 videos for DFID. As well as lots of internal communications messages the programmes include overseas projects, induction and health and safety training. Many of these programmes include signed versions for the deaf and hard of hearing, some with translations and subtitles. DFID are real trailblazers in their use of live and on-demand web streaming. Take One is proud to play a key part in this."
